LifeAt Alternatives: Find the Kind of Focus Space You Actually Miss

If you loved LifeAt's atmosphere but not everything around it, the answer depends on which part you want to keep. Here's a fairer way to choose.

Maybe you found LifeAt through one of those impossibly cosy videos: rain moving across a window, a timer in the corner, music you can almost feel through the screen. For a minute it seemed as though studying could happen inside a different little world.

And perhaps it did. Perhaps it still does.

But after a while you noticed you were only using the rain. Or you wanted your notes close to the timer without paying for a bigger plan. Or the growing dashboard became another thing to manage when you simply wanted to sit down and work.

People search for a LifeAt alternative for all sorts of reasons. Before adding another account to your collection, work out which part of the experience you don't want to lose.

A disclosure before you trust us

Calphii publishes this page, and Calphii is one of the alternatives. It would be silly to pretend otherwise. This comparison uses each service's published features and pricing checked on 8 October 2026, plus publicly shared user experiences. It is not a claim that we personally tested every service or measured their performance. Plans and limits can change.

What made LifeAt appealing in the first place?

LifeAt isn't simply a Pomodoro timer. Its site brings together moving backgrounds, audio, tasks, planning, notes and collaborative workspaces. Its official pricing page currently describes a free tier with one to-do list, limited background spaces and no daily planner. The Pro offers shown there are $8/month when billed annually or $12/month billed monthly, with features such as the planner, more backgrounds and unlimited tasks and notes. Check the current LifeAt pricing page before making a decision.

Those extras might be exactly what you need. A proper integrated planner is worth paying for if it genuinely replaces the work of arranging a day across several apps. But if all you want is a familiar place to put your headphones on and begin, an ambitious dashboard can feel like a lot of furniture in a very small room.

A small Calphii thought
Not every cosy room needs a control centre. Sometimes it needs a lamp, somewhere to put the work, and a door you can close.

Choose the part you care about, not a winner on somebody else's list

Tap the sentence that sounds closest to what you're looking for. This isn't a quiz designed to declare Calphii the answer to everything. Some paths will take you somewhere else, and that's rather the point.

What do you want from your next focus space?

A workspace, not another dashboard

Try Calphii, and compare Flocus.

Calphii gives you movable widgets, saved Spaces, ambience, music, notes and a focus timer inside a browser world you can shape. It is strongest when you want to decide what stays visible and what disappears. Open Calphii ↗

Flocus also offers beautiful themes, layered sound and a customisable timer, with more emphasis on focus stats and a structured dashboard. Explore Flocus ↗

What the alternatives feel like in real life

Flocus is worth considering if you love the polished aesthetic of LifeAt but want a different balance. The official site describes Pomodoro, countdown, stopwatch and Animedoro modes, along with animated or static themes, layered soundscapes, music and focus statistics. Its advantage is an intentionally designed focus dashboard. Its trade-off, if you're trying to simplify, is that you are still choosing a dashboard.

Moodist takes almost the opposite approach. Choose a handful of its sounds and forget about the app. This can be a relief if the virtual room you originally wanted was simply a way to mask the washing machine and make your desk feel less lonely. You won't get the same task-and-timer world around the audio. You may not miss it.

Pomofocus is about seeing a timer and doing the thing. It also has practical extras such as tasks and reports; it's not merely a stopwatch. But if your complaint about LifeAt is that the room asks you to make choices before you begin, simpler presentation can matter more than a hundred backgrounds.

StudyStream and Focusmate solve a different problem. StudyStream offers live focus rooms, with cameras optional according to its support pages, although its free plan currently limits focus-room time to one hour per day. Focusmate centres on scheduled one-to-one video sessions in 25, 50 or 75-minute blocks. If your favourite thing about an online study room is knowing a real person will notice you arrived, an ambience app alone won't replace that.

Calphii is the option we're building for people who want to make the screen feel like a place of their own. Move the widgets around. Change the world. Keep a bit of music playing, write the task where you can see it, and minimise what you don't need. You can explore as a guest; sign in when you want your space saved. It is primarily a desktop experience, and the living, animated environment may be too much if all you want is the plainest possible clock.

That last point is important. A more personal workspace is not automatically a less distracting one. If decorating your room becomes tomorrow's procrastination project, strip it back.

Try the ten-minute test before moving your whole routine

Don't rebuild a month of notes in a new app yet. Open one candidate, set a single task and spend ten minutes on actual work. Then close it and ask an unglamorous question: did it help me start, or did I spend most of my time configuring the space?

Run the same little test somewhere else if you want. You can decide that LifeAt is still your place. You can decide Moodist plus a paper notebook works better. You can decide a timer and a rainy world belong together after all.

For the person who just wants somewhere to land

Calphii isn't trying to make you manage the whole of your life from one dashboard. Make one quiet Space for the task in front of you. Give the rest of the day permission to exist somewhere else.
